I’m Wendy Watson, the owner of Wendy’s Red Door Painting Studio and Collectibles. I have been hooked on Decorative Painting since I learned my first comma stroke in 1984! Since that time I have had the opportunity to paint and teach wherever we have moved.
I have been a member of the Society of Decorative Painters (SDP) since 1986 and have held membership, served and taught in many regional chapters in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Texas, to include: Keystone Painters, Penn’s Woods Painters, Golden Triangle Decorative Artists, Country Roads Decorative Painters, Mountaineer Decorative Artists, Alamo Decorative Painters and Heart of Texas Tolers. I currently serve on The Board of Directors for SDP
I have taught Decorative Painting for over 20 years and would love to introduce you to a new passion! Yes, you can do it! You have more artistic talent than you think! Check out my current class listings and give it a try.
Decorative Painting as defined by the Society of Decorative Painters as “… a diverse art form that utilizes a variety of techniques and nonfunctional surfaces. Contemporary decorative painting is a teachable art form because of the systematic method that is employed. The use of either pre-drawn or freehand designs allows a high degree of success without academic training or inherent drawing ability. Approached with creativity, discipline and craftsmanship, contemporary decorative painting offers opportunities for artistic self-expression and creative satisfaction.”
“The scope of contemporary decorative painting is boundless, incorporating styles and techniques of the past, adapting these to the trends and materials of the present, while at the same time developing the decorative art heritage of the future…” www.decorativepainters.org
I always say that Decorative Painting includes everything from hobby/craft to fine art.
